Forrest Brazeal / @forrestbrazeal: Since this is still blowing up, here's my understanding of how this “AI-generated song” was made: 1. A human wrote the lyrics 2. A human recorded the beat 3. A human recorded themselves rapping 4. An “AI voice filter” made the recorded voice sound like Drake. Beware of hype. https://twitter.com/...
Zito / @_zeets: The first immediate thing that stands out is that so much of this AI music is going after rap/hip hop and that's how you can tell the people behind it have contempt for it. I hope they get sued into oblivion — sick of their nonsense. https://twitter.com/...

David Lidsky / @davidlidsky: @harrymccracken PC Mag was freaked out by CNET shortly after our peak (also the Windows 95 issue in August 1995, which came out just after I started as a temp) and even more so after Byte folded
@notthanekrios: @harrymccracken Very sad to see these two go. I owe a particular debt to Maximum PC: I was the magazine's staff writer for a time, and it was the first full-time tech journalism job I worked at - something that led to my current role as TechRadar's computing editor. Many happy memories there.
@andydentperth: @harrymccracken One of my proudest moments was having my article as the cover article for Software Development magazine. It's likely more people have read some digital pieces I've published in the decades since, but nothing to match that “real writer” vibe.
Christopher Bonanos / @heybonanos: @harrymccracken My first magazine job was at Computer Buyer's Guide & Handbook, an awkwardly titled pub that eventually morphed into Laptop. It was a workplace with a lot of problems, and I was eager to move on (and did), but I did learn quite a bit there.
@nerdcmo: @harrymccracken Thanks for the memories, Harry! For me, the print format didn't die with the web, it died (completely) with the dawn of the iPad and decent enough WiFi on planes. I used to save my magazines for all the BOS > SFO flights.
@harrymccracken: @alexlindsay I didn't mention this in my piece, but computer magazines were impacted by the web well before it really savaged other categories, since our readers were so tech-savvy.
@alexlindsay: @harrymccracken In 2002, I stood in front of 200+ newspaper/magazine execs and told them to leverage their current subscriber list to build an online presence. It's one of the only times I've been laughed at on stage when I wasn't trying to funny. The crater formed slower than I expected.

Ronan Price / @ronanprice: A very nostalgic look back the heyday of printed tech magazines such as PC World and Computer Shopper - 1,000-page behemoths that made a fortune but were hugely informative too. The web came for them in the end, obviously... https://www.technologizer.com/ ...
Rob Beschizza / Boing Boing: Mainstream computer mags, RIP
Harry McCracken / @harrymccracken: I am sorry to report that the last two publications recognizable as computer magazines in the classic sense have abandoned print.
